Keeping the flexible features of the original FS5, the new PXW-FS5M2 offers more creativity with FS RAW output capability and continuous Full HD 120fps out of the box. 4K60p/50p recording at RAW quality, and a stunning 120fps (4sec) HFR in 4K resolution. The picture quality offers a higher resolution. PXW-FS5M2 encompass’ all you’ve come to love about the FS5 in one complete upgraded creative package.

4K/2K FS RAW output with 4K60p/50p recording using suitable external recorder

The PXW-FS5M2 camcorder is capable to output 4K (4096×2160) 12-bit RAW at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p and 59.94p, recording to the AXS-R5 external recorder attached with the HXR-IFR5 interface unit (sold separately). Third party recorders* such as the Atomos Shogun/Shogun Inferno and also Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q/7Q+ are also compatible with FS RAW output of the PXW-FS5M2.

*As of Apr/2018 Simultaneous XAVC HD internal recording While outputting 4K/2K RAW to the AXS-R5 or third party recorder, it is possible to simultaneously record XAVC HD on SD memory cards in the camcorder’s internal dual media slots. One application of this could be that the RAW recording is used for production and XAVC HD for on-set review.

4K cached RAW output Approximately 4 seconds of cached 4K RAW can be output at 100 or 120 fps as 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p or 59.94p. When recorded in 23.98p, it will allow a stunning 5 times slow motion in 4K resolution. Continuous high speed 2K RAW output is also available. You can output continuous 2K RAW at 100, 120, 200 or 240 fps as 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50p or 59.94p.

Full HD continuous 120 fps and 240 fps (8sec burst) internal recording

The PXW-FS5M2 delivers continuous 1- 120 frames per second (fps) Slow & Quick Motion in Full HD XAVC 10-bit 4:2:2. For 24p projects, the result is gorgeous 5x slow motion. There’s no sacrifice in bit depth and no ‘windowing’ of the sensor. Compared to normal frame rates, there’s no crop factor, no loss in angle of view. You also get beautiful time lapse sequences down to 1 fps. And burst mode recording offers even higher frame rates – 240 fps, 480 fps and 960 fps – at specific resolutions. The PXW-FS5M2 offers three trigger modes and recording can be stopped anytime START TRIGGER is selected. During Super Slow Motion shooting, the readout from the image sensor is temporarily stored in the internal high speed cache memory. Then the data is processed into recording format and is written to the MS/SD memory.

E-mount flexibility with Alpha mount system

Sony’s ? mount system offers unsurpassed compatibility with both Sony and third-party lenses. The PXWFS5M2’s E-Mount can take cinema lenses and SLR lenses with a third-party adaptor, as well as Sony’s E-mount and A-mount lenses. So whether buying new lenses, or making use of lenses you’ve already purchased, the PXW-FS5M2 makes it easy.

You can also purchase the FS5 on its own (PXW-FS5M2) or with lens (PXWFS5M2K). Weighing only 427g, the SELP18105G is an ideal partner for the FS5M2 delivering stunning imagery with a 6x power zoom which is easily adjusted by a zoom lever on the camera’s grip and handle. SELP18105G is supplied as standard with the PXW-FS5M2K. Clear Image Zoom This proprietary Sony technology significantly extends your ability to get closer to a remote scene while preserving image quality. Once you’ve zoomed in at maximum optical magnification, By Pixel Super Resolution technology can enlarge the image by additional 200%. It is also compatible with fixed focal length lenses, so you can zoom into a scene while using a prime lens. Centre Scan Mode To support traditional Super 16mm cinema lenses, the PXW-FS5M2 has a Centre Scan Mode which selectively outputs 2160×1080 from the sensor’s centre. This gives the FS5 all the characteristics of a Super 16mm film camera and avoids any vignetting. It also offers a 2x Digital Extender zoom – effectively doubling your range for HD content.

Electronic Variable ND filter

The PXW-FS5M2 inherits the benefits of the original FS5 with the built-in electronic variable Neutral Density (ND) filter. Unlike conventional optical ND Filters, the electronic ND Filter on the PXW-FS5M2 can be controlled from 1/4ND to 1/128ND linearly. ND Filters can also be set to auto. This makes the PXW-FS5M2 ideal for fast-moving shoots in changeable environments – there’s no need to change filters as lighting conditions change and variable control makes it easy to keep depth of field under control.

Instant HDR workflow w/ HLG

Shoot, edit and view HDR content in HLG without the need for additional color grading. As the expanding need for HDR content continues, internet video platforms and professionals producing corporate or

event content are paying more attention to the added value of HDR. They need to deliver content quickly, without compromising on imaging expression and quality of content. To meet this demand, the PXW-FS5 offers Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording, in addition to S-Log3, for easy file-based workflows, while achieving the image quality of HDR. This simple workflow enables the shooting, editing and viewing of HDR content in HLG, without devoting a lot of time to postproduction work and additional color grading.

Lightweight, compact and flexible design for mobility

Lightweight but robust Despite its amazingly light 0.8kg body, the PXW-FS5M2 is more than tough enough for the rigors of real-world shooting. The main frame is magnesium, for high rigidity and light

weight. Versatile monitoring However you want to shoot, the PXWFS5M2 adapts to fit your style. Its 3.5- inch LCD screen can be attached in no less than nine different locations: three on top of the handle and another six on top of the body. And once attached, the positioning of the screen can be freely adjusted – for example either besidethe camera body or directly along the axis of the lens.

Modular design for easy integration The PXW-FS5M2 is designed to be taken apart quickly and easily, with no need for custom tools. There are also 1/4- inch screw holes on handle, top and bottom of the body to support mounting on a drone, gimbal or in underwater housing. For tripod mounting, there’s a 3/8-inch screw hole on the bottom. You can even add the FS7’s rosette mount* to securely attach an FS7 arm and compatible third-party accessories.

Multiinterface (MI) Shoe

The PXW-FS5M2 takes advantage of Sony’s flexible Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, which provides power, signal connections and coordinated on/off switching to compatible Sony accessories. For example, you can

connect and control Sony wireless microphone systems such as the UWPD11 or UWP-D12 or attach the HVLLBPC light.*

*Accessories sold separately. HVL-LBPC light does not draw power from PXWFS5M2.

Simple Live Solution when combined with MCX- 500 Live Producer and RM-30BP Remote

The PXW-FS5M2 works seamlessly with the MCX-500 and RM-30BP remote to form a cost-effective Live Production System. A Tally indicator will automatically appear on each camera’s LCD panel and viewfinder. A red icon indicates when the shot is live (PGM) while Green indicates preview mode (NEXT). The MCX-500 supports mixing between eight video sources, four stereo embedded audio channels plus two XLR Inputs, and a dedicated Title Input. . There are both internal recording and live streaming via Ustream, Facebook Live and YouTube Live. (Facebook Live and YouTube Live require V2.0 firmware.)

Dual media slots with Relay and Simul mode selection

Dual media slots with independent record control To extend recording time and workflow flexibility, the PXW-FS5M2 is equipped with two memory card slots. ‘RELAY’ mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when the first is full, while ‘SIMUL’ mode permits simultaneous recording to two memory cards (for example to create an immediate back-up version). The PXW-FS5M2’s three start/stop buttons on the grip, handle and camcorder body, can independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in ‘SIMUL’ mode.
