Panasonic is proud to introduce a whole new way of thinking when it comes to single-chip DLP projectors. With the introduction of the PT-DZ870 Series of video projectors we have changed the rules once again and we do believe our competition will have a difficult time catching-up!
At a blinding 8,500 lumens, the PT-DZ870 Series is much more than a simple lamp upgrade to our already soon-to-be-legendary PT-DZ770 Series, although that’s a part of it. No, this new engineering marvel is the first single-chip fixed installation series DLP projector to:
Break the 10,000 lumen barrier (with the PT-DX100U)
Utilize our Digital Link one-wire installation solution
Offer portrait mode mounting capability (using the optional ET-LAD120P lamp) for extreme flexibility
Create flat-panel contrast by using a newly engineered dynamic iris
Use a newly engineered 420W dual lamp system – for extreme brightness and improved efficiency
Feature a model (PT-DZ870U) with full geometric correction capabilities up to and including the optional ET-UK20 Geometry Manager Pro upgrade for extreme shaping, blending, or mapping applications
Have a 3G-SDI input (PT-DZ870U)
Work with all of the current 3D formats, both passive and active
Reduce filter maintenance to ZERO via engineering of a new efficient filter-free light engine.
Include a waveform monitor for easy matching of signal levels
Have the option of using a special smoke resistant filter for extreme rental and staging conditions.
And the list goes on, becoming almost hard to believe. What is even harder to believe though, is that the PT-DZ870 Series does all of this while at the same time increasing lamp life to a staggering 3,000 hours in standard mode and up to 4,000 hours in ECO!
If you are thinking that the above list of features and technologies are typically offered on our award winning 3-chip large venue projectors, you’re right. That’s what makes the PT-DZ870 Series the shining star in our single-chip projector line-up. This is a single-chip projector with an identity crisis- it thinks it’s a three-chip! We have even moved one step closer to 3-chip DLP in video performance with the introduction of our new, groundbreaking Dynamic RGB Booster technology.
Digital Light Processing and DLP are trademarks of Texas Instruments.
DYNAMIC RGB BOOSTER
Further narrowing the gap between single and three-chip performance!
Since the very first single-chip design, projectors have used a rapidly spinning color wheel to turn the otherwise black-and-white image created by the mirrors of the DLP imaging chip into the over 262 MILLION colors in the palette used in our projectors. However, because any color projected is active for 1/3 of the video frame, single chip projectors aren’t as bright as their three-chip counterparts. To assist in creating a bright, vivid image, a clear color wheel segment is added, known as the white segment. Using the white segment can sometimes cause somewhat muted color reproduction, which some of our competitors attempt to overcome by including a second color wheel with their projector, one that doesn’t have a white segment. This option is rarely utilized by the end-user though; it requires opening up the projector, which sort of defeats the idea of low maintenance. With Panasonic’s exclusive Dynamic RGB Booster an extremely powerful processor analyzes the signal on a frame-by-frame basis and uses this information to adjust the lamp power for each individual segment of the color wheel which is spinning at almost 11,000 RPM! The result is the visual equivalent of having your cake and eating it, offering extreme brightness for things like educational slide shows in brightly lit environments, as well as deeply saturated color for content such as Blu-ray.
Like all of our other installation single-chip projectors , the PT-DZ870 Series accepts our complete line of ET-DLE bayonet-mount lenses including the new ET-DLE030 ultra short-throw lens achieving an extremely wide range of throw distances, beginning with a projector-to-screen length of ~30% of the image width, extending to an auditorium stretching 9x the width! Finally, this series of projectors includes the core group of features that you would expect to see from any other Panasonic DLP projector, such as System Daylight View, REC709 mode for accurate cinema reproduction and DICOM part 14 simulation for medical educational purposes (this should NOT be used for actual diagnosis).
Vivid Color Control
This unique control technology optimizes the use of the color segment areas of the color wheel.
It increases the brightness of each RGB color by minimizing the unallocated portions between the colors, to achieve truly vivid coloring.
Lamp Modulation Drive System
With the advanced lamp modulation technology, the projector is able to control the lamp intensity for each of the red, green, blue, and white segments of the color wheel separately. Because the actual light output is controlled in relation to each color segment, light usage is optimized and color balance is obtained without lowering the brightness. This results in bright vivid images with increased color fidelity.
Detail Clarity Porcessor 3 Gives Natural Clarity to Even the Finest Details
This unique Panasonic circuit optimizes the sharpness of each image, based on the
super-high-, high-, medium-, and low-frequency components of the extracted image information. The resulting images have more natural, lifelike expression.
System Daylight View 2 for Enhanced Color Perception
This unique Panasonic technology optimizes image quality to improve the color perception of the projected image in bright rooms. With a brightness of 10,000 lm*, it provides highly comfortable viewing even in bright lighting, and allows viewers to concentrate easily on the images.
* For the PT-DX100. 8,500 lm for the PT-DZ870 and PT-DW830.
DICOM Simulation Mode*
This imaging mode is similar to DICOM part 14, which is a medical imaging standard. It reproduces X-ray images with remarkable clarity.
* This product is not a medical instrument. Do not use it for actual medical diagnosis.
Rec. 709 Mode for HDTV Projection
Optimal color reproduction can be achieved by selecting this mode, compliant with ITU-R Recommendation BT.709,
when images from an HDTV source are projected.
Waveform Monitor Function
When the output level of the source device fluctuates due to the performance of the device or its cable connections, the original black and white levels of the image content cannot be reproduced correctly. With the PT-DZ870 Series projector you can view the waveforms on the screen and adjust the settings either automatically or manually as you prefer.
Full-HD Ready WUXGA Resolution
The PT-DZ870 features native WUXGA resolution for full-HD viewing.
This brings you lifelike projection of intricate, highly detailed images.

Panasonic’s Original Dual Lamp SYstem
This system eliminates the interruption if a lamp should fail (in dual-lamp operation mode). The Lamp Relay mode also operates the lamps alternately to enable 24/7 projection.*
* If the projector is to be operated continuously 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, use the dual-lamp optical system’s alternating lamp operation (lamp changer) function. The projector cannot be operated continuously 24 hours a day / 7 days a week in dual-lamp mode. Allow a minimum of two hours per week of non-operation time per lamp if using the dual-lamp mode.
Long Lamp Life Contributes to Low TCO
The PT-DZ870 Series projectors lower the total cost of ownership because they have a lamp replacement cycle of up to 4,000 hours.*
* With the LAMP POWER set to ECO mode in dual lamp operation. The usage environment affects the lamp replacement cycle.

Filter-Less Dust-Resistant Optical Engine
A Heat-Pipe Cooling System Maintains Stable Operation up to 45degreesC*
A new optical cooling system featuring a heat pipe block suppresses temperature rises inside the projector and allows stable operation up to an ambient temperature of 45degreesC (113degreesF).* The use of this heat-pipe cooling system also achieves quiet operation, enabling viewers to concentrate on the presentation or on quiet movie scenes.
* The operating temperature range is 0degreesC to 45degreesC (32degreesF to 113degreesF) when used in locations from 1,400 m to 2,700 m (4,953 ft to 8,858 ft) above sea level.
If the ambient temperature exceeds 35degreesC (95degreesF), the light output may be reduced to protect the projector.
Dust-Resistant Optical Block
The optical block, the heart of the projector, is hermetically sealed to resist the effects of dust and other particles in the air, which makes it possible to remove the air filters for optics. It also contributes to the low TCO.
Easy Lamp Replacement*
For easier maintenance, you can replace the lamp from the rear. This makes it easy to replace a lamp unit while the projector is still in the mounting bracket or dual stacked.
* The lamp filter must be replaced at the same time as the lamp.
