A big 1-inch (1.0 type) stacked backside illuminated Exmor RS CMOS sensor with BIONZ X processing engine offers superb light sensitivity, delivering bright high quality Full HD imagery that makes an immediate impact. Large 1 (1.0- type) stacked Exmor RSsensor and BIONZ X

The combination of the large 1 (1.0- type) stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and the advanced BIONZ X processor enables Full HD recording without any pixel binning in high resolution, high image clarity, with less noise even when shooting in dark environments, and beautiful bokeh. Auto Focus Subject Tracking

Auto Focus Subject Tracking facilitates capturing objects moving in a narrow or wide space. Switching sensitivity sets the response for shifting focus between subjects and can be set to lock onto tracking a single subject. 4x Area settings are provided for maximum flexibility: Wide, Zone, Center and Flexible Spot.

24x with Clear Image Zoom

The HXR-MC88 comes with 12x optical zoom, which can be doubled to 24x with Clear Image Zoom while maintaining full resolution using Super Resolution Technology.

48x with Digital Extender

The 14.2 megapixels CMOS sensor and Sony’s Digital Extender can double this range, up to 48x zoom to satisfy the demand for wide-angle to telephoto shooting in various scenes.

Dual XLR inputs

The detachable handle has two XLR mic inputs. Even if you remove the handle, a stereo mini jack mic input on the body is still available. It’s ideal for shooting in confined spaces, such as a car interior, or when mounting on a gimbal.

Dual media slots with Relay and Simul mode selection

To extend recording time and flexibility, the camera provides two slots for SDXC and SDHC cards. Slot 1 is also compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2) / PRO-HG Duo cards. To take advantage, Relay mode automatically switches recording to the second memory card when the first is full. Simul mode enables simultaneous recording to two memory cards (for example to create an immediate backup version). The two Start/Stop buttons on the handle grip and camcorder body can independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in Simul mode.

Simple Live Solution with MCX-500 Live Producer and RM-30BPRemote*

The HXR-MC88 works seamlessly with the MCX-500 and RM-30BP remote to form a cost-effective Live Production System. A Tally indicator will automatically appear on each camera’s LCD panel and viewfinder. A red icon indicates when the shot is live (PGM) while Green indicates preview mode (NEXT). The MCX-500 supports mixing between eight video sources, four stereo embedded audio channels plus two XLR Inputs, and a dedicated Title Input. . There are both internal recording and live streaming via Ustream, Facebook Live and YouTube Live.

Highresolution OLED viewfinder

For precise manual focus, Sony’s 0.39- type OLED viewfinder combines high brightness and contrast with the resolution of 2359K dots. The highly responsive viewfinder also eliminates color breaking. For added flexibility in composing shots, Sony supplements the viewfinder with a 3.5-type 1550K dot touchscreen LCD monitor.
